Driving for Work - plan to keep safe.

Research indicates that driver fatigue could be a contributory factor in 1 in 5 driver deaths in Ireland.  Tiredness related collisions are 3 times more likely to result in death or serious injury because of the high impact speed and lack of avoiding action. These collisions tend to occur when our body rhythms are at a natural low point during the early hours of the morning (2am - 6am) and between 3 - 5pm.  In the early morning a mortorist is 13 times as likely to have a  tiredness related collision as someone who is driving in the middle of the morning or early evening.

What do you do?

NB.  Have a Good Nights Sleep

If tried when driving:

1. Prepare your journey, including safe breaks from driving

2. Stop in a safe place to park

3. Drink a cup or two of strong coffee or a stimulating drink containing caffeine.

4. Caffeine takes about 20min to take effect, so take a short nap.  No more than 10- 15min as longer might make you wake up groggy.  Remember to check the door is locked before you nap.
