About the Level 2 Advanced DSE Assessor Course

Standard assessments cover most employees, but not all of them. Staff returning from injury, living with chronic pain or needing specialist equipment require a more detailed assessment. Under Regulation 72 of the General Application Regulations 2007, that assessment still has to be carried out by a competent person.

The Level 2 Advanced DSE Assessor Course builds on foundation-level training. It gives you the clinical understanding to assess these complex cases confidently and to recommend solutions that actually work for the individual. It also serves as the refresher for Level 1 assessors whose certification is due for renewal.

What the Course Covers

• Advanced Regulations: Regulation 72 of the 2007 General Application Regulations and European Directive 90/270/EEC, applied to complex cases
• Anatomy & Injury Prevention: Common office-based musculoskeletal injuries and their biomechanical relationship to workstation design
• Pain Mapping & Complex Cases: Linking reported discomfort to its probable cause, and managing return-to-work and chronic pain cases
• Specialist Equipment Selection: When, why and how to recommend medically graded ergonomic equipment and accessories
• Advanced Postural Analysis: Dynamic sitting, flexible working postures and variable-height workstations
• Detailed Reporting: Performing, documenting and completing comprehensive, high-level ergonomic reports

Assessment: Certification requires successful completion of theory exams and practical case-study evaluations.

On successful completion, you will be certified for 3 years to:

• Carry out detailed DSE assessments for employees with existing pain, injuries or medical needs
• Manage return-to-work ergonomic adjustments
• Recommend and justify specialist and medically graded equipment
• Produce comprehensive, audit-ready ergonomic reports
• Renew your standing as a competent DSE assessor if your Level 1 certification is expiring

Who Should Attend?
This is a post-foundation course. You must meet at least one of the following:

• Completed a Level 1 DSE/VDU assessor course or equivalent
• Carried out at least 25 practical DSE assessments
• Hold a relevant professional qualification, such as H&S Manager, Physiotherapist, Chiropractor or Occupational Health Nurse
