VDU / DSE Assessors Course - Level 2

New

The aim

The aim of this course is to update and increase the knowledge of existing VDU / DSE assessors so they gain a greater understanding of the risks associated with prolonged sedentary behavior and incorrect use of computers so that they will be able to better identify suitable solutions. The course is run by one of KOS Ergonomics’ senior consultants, James Kennedy. Attendees will gain from his experience in working with Ireland’s largest companies and there is also a great opportunity for peer to peer learning and delegates will be encouraged to share their experiences of doing the assessments.

There will be a review of delegates understanding of the VDU regulations and a broader review of physiology, anatomy and the most common musculoskeletal disorders associated with VDU work. They will have had an opportunity to discuss issues from their own practice and updated their knowledge of, and be able to evaluate, relevant ergonomic office accessories.

.

Who Should Attend

  • VDU/DSE Assessors must have a minimum of 25 VDU assessments and have completed basic VDU/DSE assessors course or obtained a similar level of knowledge through other means.
  • Existing VDU/DSE assessors who want to gain a deeper understanding of the subject area.
  • Individuals who are in charge of ergonomics within the workplace.
  • This course is not for people who are brand new to ergonomics and is not suitable for people who have not attended a foundation VDU/DSE foundation course or gained a similar level of knowledge through other means.

.

Content

  • Review of the Irish regulations relating to VDU/DSE usage
  • Review of anatomy and physiology relating to the body when using VDU / DSE Workstations
  • Discussion and review on how the most common injuries for office based workers can be caused due to the work environment.
  • How these can be significantly reduced in the office by creating an ergonomic environment
  • Review of 'best practice' when discussing working postures and the need for flexibility, not just application of strict 'rules', including discussing individual cases.
  • Practical review of workstation set up
  • Practical review of 'ergonomic' equipment, discussing when to use and why.
  • Review of “best practice” on performing the assessment and seeing the whole process through.
  • Discussion of return to work scenarios.

 .

After the course participants will:

  • Be better equipped to do the VDU/DSE Assessments, increasing their level of competence
  • Manage employee injuries more effectively
  • Be more familiar with how to manage employees with issues
  • Be more familiar with what solutions are available to manage employees with injuries or specific requirements.
  • Be supplied with an occupational health pack to help them diagnose the most appropriate solution for each particular problem area. The pack goes through the common Work Related Injuries and provides the potential solutions taking into account the probable cause.
